Several dozen Woodmere Village residents, family and friends gathered Sunday, January 3 at Woodmere Village Hall to witness the Swearing In Ceremony of incumbents Ben Holbert, who is the current council president, Jennifer Mitchell Earley and Tennyson Adams. Both Councilmen Holbert and Adams are continuing on from their first terms since being elected in 2011. Councilwoman Mitchell Earley was appointed to her seat in 2009 and won re-election in 2011; Woodmere voters selected her to remain as their legislative representative in the 2015 General Election.
Due to personal reasons, councilwoman elect Alberta Fanning, 85, was not able to attend the ceremony. She offered her congratulations to her fellow city council members and look forward to being officially sworn in to serve her first term as Woodmere’s newest council member at a later date. Upon receiving her oath, Ms. Fanning will be one of the oldest elected council members in the county.
Harry Boomer of Cleveland 19 News served as the Master of Ceremony while Reverend Walter L. Ratcliffe, Pastor of Good Shepherd Baptist Church offered the Invocation and Benediction.
Mayor Charles E. Smith extended a heartfelt thank you to Harry Boomer, Reverend Ratcliffe, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Michael K. Astrab for administering the Oath of Office to Councilmen Adams and Holbert and Woodmere Village councilwomen Lisa A. Brockwell and Glenda Todd-Miller who administered the Oath of Office to Councilwoman Mitchell Earley.
Elected officials, members of the media, guests and family members congregated following the ceremony for refreshments provided by Simply Elegant Catering. Council’s first meeting is Wednesday, January 13 at 7 PM at Village Hall.
