What to expect for the 2020 U.S. Census

The 2020 Census is fast approaching. Data collected in the census will inform the distribution of more than $675 billion in federal funds to states and communities each year for things like infrastructure, health care, and food assistance. It’s important that we all respond to shape the future of our communities. Your responses to the 2020 Census are safe, secure, and protected by federal law. Your answers can only be used to produce statistics. They cannot be used against you by any government agency or court in any way—not by the FBI, DHS, or ICE. Learn more at 2020CENSUS.GOV.

For the first time, in 2020 the U.S. Census Bureau will accept responses online. The process will be quick and secure. You can respond to the census in less time than it takes to finish your morning coffee. The website to respond to the census goes live in March. People across the United States and five territories can begin responding to the 2020 Census online. You’ll still be able to respond by mail.
