Welcome From The Mayor

I hope everyone is having an enjoyable summer. The hot temperatures we have experienced in Northeast Ohio also have things sizzling in Woodmere Village.

You may have heard that our community was awarded a Master Planning Grant by Cuyahoga County in late spring. The in-kind services for civic planning will allow Woodmere to receive professional recommendations to revitalize the business district and neighborhoods.

Moreover, the grant assistance will help bring those spaces up-to-date and make our community more attractive in the retail and real estate marketplace.

The Village has also just been awarded a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in the amount of $150,000. The Village will utilize the funds to make much needed renovations to the Village Hall to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

On August 26th, please prepare to put on your boogie shoes, push the kiddie stroller, or bike your way along Chagrin Boulevard at Eton for the Woodmere Music Fest. There will be multiple music genres presented from noon until 6 PM; there will be special events scheduled, including celebrity appearances, food samplings, and athletic competition featuring first responders. Mark your calendar and come out Sunday, August 26 to celebrate Woodmere Village.

And speaking of celebrating, November 18, 2019, our Village will celebrate the 75th anniversary of incorporation. Planning is already taking place for the year-long celebration. We are looking for volunteers, those willing to contribute ideas, and artifacts of historical value.

The Village needs pictures, newspaper articles, memorabilia, and old stories about the Woodmere Village of yesteryear. The Village is collaborating with the Western Reserve Historical Society, Cuyahoga County Public Library, and other archivists to ensure the municipal record is accurate, succinct, and celebratory.

There is much to be proud of as we inch toward autumn. Our residents and merchants will continue to see and hear more information as we move into fall.

In closing, we hope the good news we’ve shared about your community will cause you to have a spring in your step and a smile on your face to share with others as the Gateway to the Chagrin Valley welcomes a “new day” in Woodmere.

Respectfully,
Ben Holbert
Mayor
