Eastern Cuyahoga Tornado

Summary – Significant damage from an EF4 tornado across eastern Cuyahoga County on August 13, 2019 between 918
AM and 944 AM. The storm touched down at Woodside Ave in East Cleveland and remained on the ground before lifting after Hawthorne Drive in Mayfield Heights. The tornado caused significant damage to over 100 homes and businesses in the urban communities of East Cleveland, Cleveland Heights, South Euclid, Lyndhurst, and ending along the city limits of
Mayfield Heights. The most significant damage was in South Euclid, where homes were leveled to their foundations with wind estimates around 170 mph. At the time of this issuance (11:30PM) there were 13 confirmed fatalities and several dozen injuries.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… THE SAFEST PLACE TO BE DURING A TORNADO IS IN A BASEMENT. IF NO BASEMENT IS AVAILABLE…SEEK SHELTER ON THE LOWEST FLOOR OF THE BUILDING IN AN INTERIOR HALLWAY OR CLOSET.
