Perhaps you’ve heard the phrase Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Maybe, you wondered why a block grant is important to you or the community where you live. Well, the Community Development Block Grant is a flexible plan providing resources to address a wide range of development needs. The CDBG program is an opportunity to present a plan on how to uniquely make improvements to your neighborhood.
Woodmere Village will hold a public hearing Tuesday, August 5 at 6 PM for the upcoming CDBG cycle. Woodmere could receive up to $150,000 for selected projects. As president of the Village Council, I am aware of a couple of proposals. However, I invite you to put on your thinking cap and present other innovative plans to benefit our community.
If Woodmere Village is selected as a grantee, not less than 70% of CDBG funds must be used for activities to benefit low-or moderately-low income persons. In addition, each activity must meet one of the following national objectives; prevention or elimination of slums or blight; addressing development needs having urgency because conditions pose a serious threat to the health or welfare of the community.
Should you have an idea or recommendation for the Block Grant proposal, please contact Bonnie Porter at Village Hall. Keep in mind, Woodmere has fine dining, upscale shops, and friendly people. However, your idea might make what we have in our Village, even greater. Therefore, we invite your input.
We look forward to seeing you Tuesday, August 5.
