Third graders, Tatyana Abbott, Elijah Watford and Amaree Harrell received a personal tour of Woodmere Village Hall. All three students had written letters to Mayor Smith requesting a park in the village. The mayor wrote back to the students explaining the landlocked situation of Woodmere, but invited them to come for a tour of village hall. While on their tour, the three students and their teacher, Mrs. Carlynn Ondercin, sat in council chambers, saw a real jail (holding cell) in the police department, and got close up and personal with the service department’s plow and other equipment. The best was saved for last.
With one of the students aspiring to become a fire fighter, all the students put on helmets and toured Fire Engine #1 and an ambulance. Before they left, Mayor Smith presented them each with a bag of goodies and a personally signed “Good Citizen” certificate. It was three very excited children who returned to class that afternoon.
